The main goal of the conference is the transfer of knowledge to the younger generations of the optician and optometric profession by utilizing the great potential and experience of world and European recognized and proven experts.

The 1st Optometry Conference of Central and Southeast Europe was held in 2012, that gathered 424 participants from 19 European countries. For the first time in Europe, experts in the fields of optics, optometry and ophthalmology were gathered in one place.

The 2nd Optometry Conference of Central and Southeastern Europe was held in 2014 with equal success and continued to develop the continuity of lifelong training in the field of optometry. 378 participants took part in 2nd Optometry Conference from 20 countries. The second consecutive conference in the field of optometry confirmed the great interest in this new profession in the region. The conference was held under the auspices of the President of Croatia, Ivo Josipović.

The 3rd Optometry Conference of Central and Southeastern Europe was held in 2016. It brought together 373 participants from 21 countries and reaffirmed the need for continuous transfer of knowledge.

The 4th Optometry Conference of Central and Southeastern Europe was held in 2018 in cooperation with the European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO). It brought together more than 500 participants from 30 European countries, Asia and the USA and thus improved and promoted optometry.

The 5th Optometry Conference of Central and Southeastern Europe was held in Split in 2023 and again successfully gathered more than 350 participants from 25 countries from Europe and the world.

The OCCSEE project is of great importance for the further development of the optometry profession in the region of Central and Southeastern Europe. Through the organization of the international professional scientific conference OCCSEE 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018, the University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica has positioned itself very highly alongside European eminent institutions and thus enabled the continuous transfer of knowledge from the most developed European countries. The biggest benefit from this transfer of knowledge is the participants of the conference – optometrists, ophthalmologists, optometry students, opticians and businessmen and companies in the important role of logistical support for the optometry profession.
