We would like to remind you that the 1st Optometry Conference of Central and South-Eastern Europe was held in 2012, gathering 424 participants from 19 countries of Europe. It had been the first time in Europe that the experts in the fields of eye optics, optometry and ophthalmology gathered in one place.

The 2nd equally successful Optometry Conference was held in 2014 and it further developed the continuity of life-long learning in the fields of optics and optometry. There were 378 participants from 20 countries gathered at the 2nd Optometry Conference of Central and South-Eastern Europe held from the 29th of May till the 1st of June 2014 in Rovinj, at the beautiful Lone hotel. The second conference in the field of optometry confirmed the large interest shown for this new profession in the region. The conference was organized by the University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica, the only higher education institution in the Republic of Croatia that provides the university study of Optometry. The contents of the conference were even richer and more notable than the first OCCSEE Conference in 2012.

Hotel Lone provided the premises for 14 different workshops, over 30 lectures, some 80 papers, and a round table on the topic of legislation, education and competences in the field of optometric profession. The conference was held under the auspices of the Croatian president – Mr. Ivo Josipović, and with support of the European Council of Eye Opticians and Optometrists, and with the financial support of foreign and domestic sponsors and exhibitors. The 3rd OCCSEE 2016 Conference was held in Split – Croatia from the 14th to 16th of April 2016 at the Hotel Radisson Blu Resort. There were 373 participants from 21 countries: Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Resort provided the premises for lectures from five fields of eye optics, optometry and ophthalmology, 20 different workshops and a round table on the topic Opticians, optometrists and ophthalmologists – level of collaboration needed to provide better eye care. More than 90 papers have been presented at this conference and numerous exhibitors and partners provided firm support to the organization of the OCCSEE 2016 Conference. The 4th Optometry Conference of Central and Southeastern Europe – OCCSEE 2018 and the 10thAnnual Conference of European Academy of Optometry and Optics were jointly held from May 11 to May 13 of this year, with exceptional success.
The conference, which the University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica has for the first time organized in cooperation with the European Academy of Optometry and Optics, brought together more than 500 participants from 30 European countries, Asia and the United States of America at the Park Plaza Histria hotel in Pula.
During three days of the conference, a series of workshops was held, as well as a large number of interesting presentations by eminent local and foreign experts in the field of optometry, while approximately 50 poster presentations were exhibited. Round table with participants from a dozen European countries was likewise held as part of the conference.

The OCCSEE Project has great importance for the further development of the profession of optics and optometry in the region of Central and South-Eastern Europe. By organizing the international scientific conferences OCCSEE 2012, OCCSEE 2014 and OCCSEE 2016 the University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica has ranked very high along with eminent European institutions, thus enabling the continuous transfer of knowledge from the most developed European countries. Those who received the greatest benefits from this knowledge transfer have been the conference participants – opticians, optometrists, ophthalmologists, students of Optometry as future optometrists and the entrepreneurs and companies in their important role as logistical supporters of the profession of optometry and eye optics.
